ASA(1)ASA(1)NAMEasa - interpret ASA carriage control characters
SYNOPSISasa [files]
DESCRIPTION
Asa interprets the output of FORTRAN programs that utilize ASA carriage
control characters. It processes either the files whose names are given
as arguments or the standard input if no file names are supplied. The
first character of each line is assumed to be a control character; their
meanings are:
' ' (blank) single new line before printing
0 double new line before printing
1 new page before printing
+ overprint previous line.
Lines beginning with other than the above characters are treated as if
they began with ' '. The first character of a line is not printed. If
any such lines appear, an appropriate diagnostic will appear on standard
error. This program forces the first line of each input file to start on
a new page.
If the environment variable _XPG is defined, asa operates in conformance
with the X/Open XPG4 specifications. The format of the output may differ
in accordance to the XPG4 standards.
EXAMPLE
To correctly view the output of FORTRAN programs which use ASA carriage
control characters, asa could be used as a filter thusly:
a.out | asa | lpr
and the output, properly formatted and paginated, would be directed to
the line printer. FORTRAN output sent to a file could be viewed by:
asa file
